Part 2 of the people and their stories that make up our UNO community.

Interview:

Q1: Where are you from?

Queens, NY, but my family and I live in Kansas City, MO.

Q2: Where is your family from? If they are from outside the state, what brought them here?

My family is from Mexico City, MX and Oaxaca, MX. My parents came to the US around their 20s. My mom had a daughter back home to provide for and my father was looking for a job and a family.

Q3: Are you an observer or a talker?

I am an observer. I like to listen to others, like really listen, and I love to learn. I will speak up though, if I strongly feel that I should.

Q4: What was your favorite childhood television program?

Hmmm, Author? or Clifford or Rugrats.

Q5: Are you a morning or night person?

I am a night person. Yes, I just can't do mornings. I think at night the city is just beautiful.

Q6: Are you a collector of anything?

Um, hardcore, no. I do like books, alot. I'm a beginning collector of books...and stickers.

Q7: What is your favorite food?

I love asian food, like a lot, but it's tied with sopes (a traditional Mexican dish.)

Q8: What do you do for fun?

I like taking random road trips, being around my silly friends, listening to music in my room, going dancing, reading, going on long walks, anything really.

Q9: List 3 of your best personality traits:

Friendly, silly, supportive

Q10: Write in 3-5 sentences a short narrative of a time where you learned something valuable that you’ve applied in your college years.

When I started college my freshmen year, I was determined to have a good time. I was away from my parents, from their "strict" rules, from everything I felt had held me back from living my life. Needless to say I did what a typical, curious, freshmen student would do. Then after a semester of careless behavior I began to see dissapointment in my grades, in the people who looked at me as a smart young woman and in myself. I was lost, confused, and very homesick. I went on a spiritual retreat. Then I got more involved in the campus ministry. I found a connection with the faith I had grown up in. I learned that rules are rules for a reason. To this day when I struggle I say a little prayer. My faith and hope let me know that everything will be alright.
